"New" Asus motherboard?

Can someone tell me if an Asus M2N-e SLI with an "Athlon 64 X2 dualcore processor 5600+" 2.8ghz, would work well under Aros? The cpu is a 64 bit dual core, so which advantages has over a single core PIV 2.8ghz? The motherboard is far more advanced than the one I have now, but what about cpu speed? Aros is only 32 bit and doesn't use the extra core... will the raw power of the AMD be the same as the PIV at the same clock?

The onboard Ethernet might not work: nforce.device only works with older chipsets. Have you looked for benchmark results for 32-bit code on the Athlon?

This is not a big problem, as long I can use my Intel Pro 100 card.

No, I don't know what to search. The benchmarks done on other OSes are good to understand how Aros will work on the Athlon 64 X2? I only need to know if dismantle my computer and switch to this motherboard/cpu is a good choice. If it will run slower than a single core PIV 2.8 ghz, it doesn't worth this sort of work.

Per clock the Athlon 64 is probably up to about %60 faster than the PIV. With a few exceptions they're a different class of system, and really the areas that the PIV can compete probably don't have the level of specific optimisation that are required to make it do so on AROS.

It also depends on the type of P4. There's quite a difference (moreso than most archs) between the intial P4's and the last few produced. Having said that though, my "stuff around with different OSes" box is an a64 x2 4800+ in favour of a 3ghz dual core Prescott pIV.

End of the day, I wouldn't think twice about making the swap if I was you

You can compare CPUs with regard to their passmark results on http://www.cpubenchmark.net

The single thread performance (which should be one of the most relevant parameters for Aros) of the Athlon is about 34% higher than the one of the Pentium:
