Hi all,
My name is Gaz and I've been assigned the Kickstart ROM replacement bounty stage 1. I've set up a blog to keep everybody informed of my progress at http://noisemonkey.wordpress.com/ I've got 8 years experience as a software engineer (mainly embedded stuff on Linux using C). I'm currently just poking around the AROS source trying to work out how the build process works. Anyway, if anybody has any comments, please email/pm me, or post a reply on the blog. Cheers, Gaz.

Good news and good luck. This bounty is pretty important to a lot of not just AROS people, but amiga people in general. I had a look at your blog and while I cant give you exact details, I think you'll be able to save yourself some work. Im not sure how up to date everything is, but gcc and binutils, etc already exist for os3.x. Ive actually started a thread about this subject at Amiga.org earlier today for my own interests, so I'll let you know exactly what the state of things are once I find out myself if you like ? If Im not mistaken the author behind afa_os has semi recently updated os3.x gcc to v4.something, and also updated other tools as well. My last real experiences with development on os3.x was some time back, but at the time support was surprisingly decent (albiet not completely upto date).

@masule
Have done, thanks. @fishy_fis Cool, an update would be appreciated. I'll contact the AFA author and enquire about gcc/binutils. Cheers, Gaz.

Good luck with the bounty!
I also would suggesting contacting AFA author (the AFA source codes are available in AROS svn).

In my opinion, AROS should get an easily reproducible working "real cross compiler" based SDK for gcc/g++ 4.4 (which is current on most unix/linux platforms) that supports all the AROS targets.
That would facilitate app development for all the platforms, as well as helping towards the Kickstart ROM replacement project, if and when it restarts.
