AROS-Exec : "call for wall-papers"
Posted by craid-hjb on 2007/3/24 16:46:26 (5664 reads )

AROS-ExecDue to a certain need for new Wanderer backgrounds, everyone is invited to the official:

"AROS: call for wall-papers"

The wallpapers should be placed in Aros-Exec gallery and should have a minimal size of 800x600, images in multiple resolutions would be best.

Since there is no resizing of wallpapers supported in Wanderer, the image content might be aligned to the upper left corner, so using a 1024x786 background image in a 800x600 resolution would not cut any logos or sensitive parts.

All images must be released under APL and must not contain any foreign copyrighted materials!

The competition deadline is May 31st, after which a poll will be starting to nominate the winning image. This will be set as the default desktop background in the nightly builds.

Wouldn't it be nice if there was a bounty for this competition where the competitors are stimulated by something?

Well, isn´t winning a competition prize enough for one? I mean, you are free to open up a bounty, as everyone does, but do we really need one for a single wallpaper image? I would just like to see some of the great Amiga artists over here, helping out their roots by contributing some nice images.

Images might be put under GPL aswell although APL is preferred. Please post the links to your contributions over here!

Isn't having your work as default wallpaper enough of a reward all by itself?

Image can be resized with any tool outside AROS, if lunapaint is not enough :)

Anyway, I don't like artistry boundaries like "logos should be on the left", because AROS itself puts disc icons on the left and menu bar on the top side of the screen, so aligning everything on the left isn't a good solution, and also I don't like logos and writings on the left :)

I'll do some artistry at different resolutions. 800x600, 1024x768 and 1600x1200 should be enough

Please consider widescreens, too, if you can (1920x1200). Smaller images stretched to it don't look nice.

AFAIK, AROS doesn't support yet wide screen resolutions. Maybe I'm worng, though.

Anyway, let's start dances.

I'm not commiting my wallpapers to aros-exec gallery due to PNG sizes in KB. My wallpapers heavily use gradients, and they get ruined by JPG compression. I'll put 'em on the Archives in four zip files, resolutions from 800x600 to 1600x1200. Here are my previews:

My desktop wallpapers are distrbuted under APL, and the subject is "Road to 1.0". As you can see, there are 4 main colour themes I dedicated to the four seasons. Zip files containing my pictures will be available very soon.

great work Damir!

Don't mean to be pushy, but any news on that gorgeous 1.3 theme you have been preparing for AROS?

Did I say how gorgeous it is?

Sprocket,

You should post this in the Gallery, so people will be able to download it if they want.
It would be cool if you changed the font to the one d980 posted for you too.

Thank you for your submission.

Actually, I don't mind that gradient at all. I clicked on the larger version in the Gallery and it looked pretty good.

Here's two of my contributions. One is the cat that some of you may have seen already and the new one is a very happy AROS user :) The cat is available in different resolutions.

There I made some more improvements. I didn't do exactly all the right colors, because well...these are prettier
