AROS : AROS self compiles!
Posted by deadwood on 2008/11/18 11:25:35 (1579 reads )

AROSToday marks an important day for AROS as Stanislaw Szymczyk completes his work on AROS self-compilation, fulfilling an important requirement of AROS 1.0 Roadmap.

Stanislaw's work, started in April, brought many important but missing development tools to AROS, the most notable beeing native GCC/G++ packages for i386, PPC, x86_64 and native Perl and Python packages for i386 and x86_64. The ported software and changes Stanislaw implemented made AROS a developer friendly system. We also hope that way the tools are integrated with standard distribution (fully working even from LiveCD !) will appeal to people wanting to develop for AROS and on AROS.

Kitty is waiting for your commits!

For instructions concerning self-compilation, please see this documentation:

Excellent! AROS is now (almost) self dependent!

It requires now a subversion port (something with a gui -RapidSVN style) and devs can work directly on AROS on the AROS SVN tree.

Great Work Stanislaw!...
Netsurf coming up?!

 Re: AROS self compiles!
This is a big milestone here. Not only did AROS take a great big step into becoming a "real" OS, it also has up-to-date development tools for the first time in a long time. Lets hope that they stay up to date (and that the ports maybe even make it into the main branches of the various projects involved)

Also, a set of Zune bindings for Python (as well as a proper non-static build that would allow them to be used) would be sweet as a next projects.

The bounty is still marked as assigned! Hasn't been finished or Stanislaw hasn't collected yet?

No, I'm still waiting for Power2People to set up a repository so I can commit the code.

Today is the deadline for the bounty. Power2People code repository is still not ready, so they've sent me the bounty money without having the code commited to their repository. Of course all code related to this bounty is already in AROS SVN repository.
