Software : EmuLa v1.4 available for download!

Software

Hello all,
I'm glad to announce that the first public release of EmuLa is available for AROS i386.

EmuLa features an unique approach to roms recognition based on the file crc: this method allows EmuLa to be extremely precise in rom recognition, this way the user is never asked to resolve ambiguities.

EmuLa's interface and operating mode is very simple and fast, the philosophy behind EmuLa is to allow the player to spend his time on playing instead of spending time on cryptic configuration screens.

EmuLa does not need any configuration, all you have to do to play your retro games is:
- scan your media for roms
- click on a platform to populate the roms list
- hit the play button
...and that's all!

If EmuLa needs to download an emulator it will do it by itself and the rom will be started immediatly afterwards.

You can use EmuLa in its basic mode that is completely free or you can buy a subscription to access all the advanced features. For a limited time the lifetime license will be sold at half price so if you like what EmuLa can do for you and if you want to support me please buy a subscription!

For more details, subscription plans, features, downloads and supported platforms please visit the official page.

Please note that this is just the starting point : more retro-platforms will be supported, more features will be implemented, and more retrogaming fun will be delivered :)

Re: EmuLa v1.4 available for download!
jut my opinion here, but:

amigaos 3.x UI is so nice,
i really don't understand what you are doing with that strange looking UI.

it's nice to have a frontend for emulators,
automatically downloading covers and artwork and all that is nice,
but the UI should stick to amigaos 3.x guidelines:
default is minimalist. user can customize.

same goes for aros in general.
all the greatness, good looking, should come from user customisations.

not all comments have to be happy about everything.
this is meant as constructive criticism, not bashing.
i'm grateful for all the efforts and progresses and achievements aros community delivers.

@freeaks

Thank you for trying EmuLa!
As @phoenixkonsole has pointed out EmuLa is a multiplatform project and since one of its goal is to be available for MacOS, AROS, Windows, Linux, MorphOS and AmigaOS in all their flavours, it's impossible for me to develop this project using every OS's native GUIs.
EmuLa is using a custom GUI toolkit developed by me in Hollywood called HGui, it is not yet released for the public mainly because there is very few documentation available at this time.
If you have suggestions to make the user interface more sleek feel free to suggest your ideas, the GUI in my mind should be easy enough to allow even a beginner of emulation and retrogames to be able to play games without spending hours in configurations and tunings :)

@all
EmuLa development is still going, next version will be able to recognize and run SuperNES roms.
I've also added the ability to skip the game art download (if needed) when the scan begins as requested by @deadwood, so the user can quickly scan for roms and play as soon as possible :)
Another addition is the ability to auto-check for updates every day, there is a preference to enable or disable this feature.
As soon as I've completed and tested the SuperNES support I will release the new version, ETA: 2 or 3 weeks.

The promotional price (15€ for lifetime subscription instead of 30€) will be valid until the end of August, the purchased serial is valid for each supported os, even for those that will be supported in the future!

Re: EmuLa v1.4 available for download!
it's more understandable in this case then.
being cross platform..

maybe it could get themed ? osx theme, linux theme, amiga theme..
with the testing of a variable, see which os it is running on,
and then use one or another texture for UI elements.
just as an idea.
i suppose ppl on osx would prefer something looking native, same for linux, and amigans too.
like java on osx, it look and feel native. (sorry for java comparison ;)

anyway good to see snes is coming :)

Yes, I've thought about this possibility :)
The custom GUI toolkit I've developed supports an highly configurable skinning system and it is only a matter of spending some time to mimic every OS native gadgets to create a theme. I'd like to implement this feature as a part of the GUI tool kit but at this time I'm more focused on EmuLa functionalities and features, when it will reach an advanced state I could resume my work on the GUI library and then a recompile should be all I need to implement the new features.

Well, for Linux users it could be difficult to identify which theme is currently in use :)

Anyway the "user interface" is always a complex topic and with different perspectives of observation. For example: an EmuLa user have OSX, Linux, Windows and AROS and he run usually the application on all these four systems, I think he'd like to see always the same-identical user interface.
It is just my subjective point of view and a preference switch could resolve the dilemma :)
